The first is a link to the position of game developer, this job is suitable for me as it is aimed at people leaving college, or less experienced games developers, it states this when it says “junior games developer.”

The second is a link to a higher end job which may only be achieved after many years of junior game programming and working towards it, this is a much higher demanding job as it requires you to have years of experience and it clearly says it’s the position of “lead programmer”

This is an example of my work that is in my portfolio; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3wqUP7Z-zA

This example shows some basic animation and modelling I created in the first part of the first year of my college course, I used Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects to create this video. This can be useful for companies as it shows that I have used these softwares effectively and I know how they work.

We are looking for a front end games developer with a 2:1 or above degree in Computer Science (or similar) who has experience of using Typescript / Javascript and Object Oriented Programming.

Other technologies we use are pixi.js, Git, Jenkins, Angular JS, AWS, Phonegap, Grunt, Gulp, Bower, JQuery, Intellij idea, Sass and Less.

If you know any of this stuff, great, but what’s important to us isn’t what you know, it’s how eager you are to learn. We need people who are happy switching between disciplines. What’s most important is that you are an intelligent individual with a passion for computing, programming and problem solving.

Action plan:

Learn basic knowledge of computer code language,

Finish college course with good grades,

Apply for University degree in chosen subject,

Gain contacts through University course tutors and pupils,

Get noticed by bigger companies,

Apply for job in chosen company,

Continue working on programming skills,

Get hired and work for a good gaming company.

Task 4: Employment Opportunities and Job Roles in the Media Sector

The terms for employment are simple and make it fairer for people that work, this includes paying employees the appropriate pay rate according to the national minimum wage, there are certain rules you may have to follow in the contract that you sign when you first get the job. This is a list of the terms that must be followed when you get a job; in a written contract, or similar document like a written statement of employment. verbally agreed. In an employee handbook or on a company notice board. In an offer letter from the employer. Required by law (e.g an employer must pay employees at least the National Minimum Wage.)

Depending on what line of business you want then you may want to go into a job at entry level such as an administrator, however if you have previous experiences then you may end up looking for something that is higher up. Below are a list of jobs that are good for entry level applicants as they are good pay and you get lots of experience with the various tools that you may use in these jobs.

I found this job on the skillset website, this job requires many specific skills to apply such as; working with 2D and 3D animation, working as a team, understanding basic programming and being creative in the way you express the character with their movements and actions. I will need to learn more programming skills and creative skills if I want to apply for this job.

These websites are job applications that are good for entry level jobseekers, the first one is for an administration sort of job which would be good as you would develop business skills and learn new skills with computers. The second is a mcdonalds application which may not seem like a serious job, however the work load and discipline you need to work there is very demanding even if it may not seem like it, this job also provides good experience as you work with a range of different items such as; tills, fryers, cleaning products and money, however the work can be painful and horrible if customers are not very nice. You will need to be disciplined and able to communicate well as you will be using lots of teamwork.

Continued Professional Development refers to the process of writing up any skills/knowledge and experience that you pick up when working. It shows initiative as you can show what sort of work you have developed past training, to achieve this you may be required to do some extra training in order for you to progress up to a higher level in your job, for example going for a shift leader job or an assistant manager role.

As an example of how you could use CPD I will use Mcdonalds because in that line of work you have lots of roles i.e.; team member, shift runner/leader, assistant manager, manager, area coach, head of store etc. If you wanted to progress from team member to shift leader then you would need to be both able to run a shift and lead people with organisational skills and good communication skills, you also need to be at least 18 due to the use of certain machinery that you can only learn to use when you are 18.

As an administrator you will need to be a good people person and know what sort of thing your clients may need in order for the actual workers to be able to work and make the product they need to effectively and professionally, you may need to develop such skills as basic knowledge of computers and software and be good at organising client data. You will probably need a basic pass grade in each core subject at GCSE level i.e. Maths, science, english, IT and possibly food technology for the Mcdonalds job but that is most likely all.

There are types of work and pay rates, for example, you may be looking for part time work while you’re in education, or full time. These two types are very different as the title entails, one is for people who need lots of money and have possibly finished education and need to get a full time stable job, the other is for people like me who are still in education but still need basic money to keep them going, this is the work type for part time people. There are also different pay rates such as; hourly (most people are on this and get paid a certain rate i.e £7.20 an hour would be how much you earn for every hour you are clocked in as working.) There is also salary pay which is a set amount of hours that you must work by contract (this sort of pay is usually for higher up management like the manager who is completely dedicated and works full time) you may get paid fortnightly or monthly which is usually a common trait for adults or certain businesses to do.

Strengths:

I am a good team leader which is important in the media sector as you need someone who can control the roles of all the members that may be working on the game/product. I am good at listening which is important because you need the opinion and ideas of everyone around to create any improvements towards the game that you may need to improve on.

Weaknesses:

I am easily annoyed and rattled by the arrogance and incompetence of other people’s stupidity, this could end up distracting me and causing an issue when trying to develop certain assets for the media product.

Opportunities:

Due to my grades at GCSE I am able to apply for jobs that give pretty good pay, I am also keen to take the opportunities that are presented before me which shows that I like to take risks and shows how I am willing to do anything to get the goals that I want.

Threats:

The only threats I have are mainly due to the competition I have in the workplace, this is a good thing in a way as it make me more determined to be the best I can and shows a competitive determined side of me.

Task 3: Regulation of the Media Sector

The media sector is regulated to make sure that all media types are rated appropriately, the main issues affecting the producers and consumers is probably copyright strikes and laws, theses laws are in place to stop people from taking content from other places, for example a youtube video may contain lots of long clips of a film that has just come out. If this video gets noticed then it is very likely it will get a copyright strike against it and potentially may cause the publisher of the video to end up in a court case.

This is because Youtube has a “fair use” policy which states “fair use is determined by a judge using the four factors” these factors are “1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes” “2. The nature of the copyrighted work” “3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole” “4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work”

Monopoly is when a certain company or service owns the majority of the market for that particular product or may even own the whole market in terms of that specific product, in other words monopoly can be classed as having no competition at all. It’s important that this doesn’t happen to any one company as it will lower the options for the consumer/buyer of the product and will limit the way people buy that product, for example if Amazon started selling a certain selection of popular games and blocked the market for those games then all other game companies would have to sell their product to Amazon causing the seller to potentially lose money as the game would only be sold if Amazon bought it so Amazon could buy the game at a really low price and cause the game company to go bankrupt, furthermore, Amazon could charge a ridiculous amount for that game as the consumer would have to buy it for that price and there would be no choice in the matter.

Censorship is when something graphic is covered up in order to stop the public or the viewer from seeing it as it may be an explicit image or sound. Some people feel like there is a slight difference between censorship and protecting the public interest because things that may be censored are usually done to stop children from seeing the wrong thing, therefore censorship could be classed as protecting the public interest.

Under 18s are still classed as children and therefore must also be protected by certain regulations just the same as a 3 year old or 12 year old should, some of the regulatory issues do apply to my media sector as I will need to apply age ratings and censorships on some games depending on the target audience of the game, the GBGB are a regulatory body that work on keeping games properly protected and age rated appropriately, they enforce this by using court cases and suing any company that may be breaking any of the rules/regulations towards making a game.

Regulations affect media by restricting actions that businesses in the media sector can take towards selling their product, they need to watch out for age ratings in trailers etc, the actual product itself will need to be properly age rated to avoid getting sued or to avoid controversy. These factors help to determine the target audience you may use when advertising the product.

You can be sued or be fined if you do not adhere to the regulator’s rules or it’s codes of practice just like any other rule or law, this may lead to prosecution in court once the judge looks at the factors that go into the case.
